I have not seen any such  structures in Maharashtra – the Maratha land - indicating that though it may be commissioned by Maratha Rulers the engineering might be purely Tamilian.

Manora (near Chengipatti & before Pattukottai ) was the place where 13 of our batch went for the first batch reunion in our school bus. 

We have learnt about Chola, Cheran & Pandian rule in TN. I do not remember having learnt about the Maratha rule in TN. So it was surprising to find their control from Gingee (near Tindivanam) to Tanjore for over 400 years. History can at times be distorted.

Incidentally, the current Sreemath  Sri Raja Chatrapathi Bhonsle at Tanjore  is my,  college junior.  Maratha or Maharashtra during my college days was like Nagaland or Mizoram is to us today. So I did not bother too much about my juniors credentials then.

But having spent over 20 years in MH, I am getting curious.  His wife is from Pune & believe lived in one of the ancestral palaces . Spoke to him for the first time 2 days ago. .

He resides in Tanjore & is the Trustee of over 88 temples including Tanjore Periya Kovil. So much Maratha connect at my backyard & missing my eyes all these years.
