MP was a big state before being split up. Omkareshwar is near the Indore side. Right on the other end - a good 550 KM away from Indore - lies which I would call the Jabalpur side
Jabalpur & the areas surrounding the borders of Maharashtra has many popular tiger reserves ( wildlife reserves), including the ones where Rudyard Kipling’s Jungle Book was based on. This is what takes the tourists & you there. Inexpensive & offbeat. Avoid the summers & winters, as the heat & cold can be severe.
Being at the heart of central India, you can notice the gradual transition from Maharashtrian to North Indian cuisines .
Jabalpur has a gelatin factory, which uses bovine bones as the raw material to make gelatines that is used in making capsules, jelly, marshmelons etc. The bones are soaked in Hydrochloric acid @ 4 deg centigrade & the resultant corrosion to the tanks gives me my vegan bread & butter.
