River Linking or Rally for Rivers is the latest movement in India  & more so in TN with a huge budget being proposed. Though the idea at times seems to be hijacked by certain persons/ outfits with dubious vested interests, the potential benefits have caught the imagination of the people & is turning out to be an uniting force.

Sir Arthur Cotton was one among the British gems who contributed to Indian development amongst others who plundered us. He studied the way Kallanai’s foundations were made on silty soil & implemented it in another region in India to divert flood waters & bring forever prosperity to the people of an once drought & famine prone region. Having proposed river linking a good 150 years ago, he is as good as the father of the  Indian River Linking movement.

Salutes to this great engineer for his great contributions in eradicating drought through flood diversion engineering. He is revered to this day in that region. You can read more about him on Wikipedia (Sir Arthur Cotton)
